The Government of India has banned Chinese Applications including TikTok, UC Browser and many more. This happened within a week of a report given by intelligence agencies claiming the Chinese applications are violating terms & conditions as well as privacy. Soon after the announcement, the MyGov account having 1.1 million followers was also disabled.
While making the announcement, the Press Information Bureau mentions in a press release, “decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”
Apart from TikTok and UC Browser, the list of 59 applications banned by Government of India includes Helo, Likee, Cam Scanner, Shareit, Club Factory, Shein, Mi Community, Newsdog, Vmate, Viva Video, Clash of Kings and other applications.
Moreover, the press release by PIB added, “The Ministry of Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India. The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures.”
Recently the Government of India has also made it compulsory to mention the Country of Origin in the products listing in Government’s E-marketplace and E-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon.
