The much-awaited Apple’s iPhone 12 Series has been launched at the virtual event in Cupertino. Moreover, according to the floating rumours, the iPhone 12 series has 4 smartphones – the most affordable one is iPhone 12 Mini while the most expensive one is iPhone 12 Pro Max. Besides, there are iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro in between. The Cupertino giant claims iPhone 12 Mini to be the smallest, thinnest and lightest 5G smartphone in the world. Well, yes all the four smartphones come with 5G support. One thing that might disappoint is the size of the notch as many of us expected a small notch this time. Let’s look into the iPhone 12 Series deeply now!
iPhone 12 Series: Specifications and Features
Design and Display
Starting with the design, the newly launched series comes with a different design which somehow resembles the original iPhone SE and old models. Apple has also introduced Super Retina XDR (OLED display) in all the 4 smartphones so its time to say goodbye to the Retina LCD panels. Moreover, the display comes with a Ceramic Shield which means there is a ceramic protective layer developed with Corning. There is a stainless steel frame which makes the smartphones look more premium and they have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
The four smartphones come with 3 different display sizes i.e. iPhone 12 Mini comes with a 5.4-inch display, iPhone 12 and 12 Pro feature 6.1-inch Display and the star of the series sports a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 12 Series also comes with the big notch like its predecessor which houses a 12MP selfie camera which supports the much-trusted Face ID.
Internal Configurations
The 5G-enabled iPhone 12 Series is the first smartphone in the world to be powered by 5nm built A14 Bionic chipset along with a hexa-core CPU, quad-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine which enables up to 11 trillion operations per second. As far as storage is concerned, the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 come with 64GB minimum storage along with the 128GB and 256GB models. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max is offered in 3 storage variants – 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
The company has also removed charging adapter from the box this time to reduce e-waste. So the box will be much thinner than usual! Well, in our opinion, Apple should have given an option to customers to voluntarily give up charger instead. But now the iPhone 12 Series smartphone supports the old MagSafe Wireless Charging in simple words, a new magnetic charging technology. The MagSafe charger supports up to 15W wireless fast-charging while the wired charger supports 20W charging. However, Apple has not revealed the exact battery sizes yet like every year so we have to wait for that.
Camera
The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 come with dual rear camera setup similar to previously launched iPhone 11. The dual camera includes a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.6 aperture and another 12MP 120-degree ultra-wide sensor with f/2.4 aperture. There is a support of OIS, 4K video recording at 60fps, 5x digital zoom and Smart HDR 3. And the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max come with triple rear cameras which look-alike to the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.
However, the Pro and Pro Max variant get the LiDAR sensor that we saw in the iPad Pro 2020 as a part of AR technology. Both the phones come with 12MP primary lens with f/1.6 aperture, 12MP 120-degree ultra-wide lens and another 12MP telephoto lens. Features include Dual-OIS, Deep Fusion, Apple ProRAW, Sapphire Lens Cover, 4x optical zoom in 12 Pro and 5x optical zoom in 12 Pro Max.
