Samsung has unveiled its 5G Galaxy Z Flip foldable smartphone in the US ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked event. So it is the third smartphone which is powered by the new Snapdragon 865+ chipset from Qualcomm. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G is a twin to Galaxy Z Flip (4G variant) that was launched in February 2020, however, with a new processor, 5G connectivity and two new colours. Let’s quickly recall or look the Galaxy Z Flip but this time, the 5G version.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G: 5G and Snapdragon 865+ SoC
The faster 5G-connectivity and latest Snapdragon 865+ make the Galaxy Z Flip special. Let’s talk about the chipset first, the handset is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC (7nm) with Snapdragon X55 5G modem and Adreno 650 GPU. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ chipset is a slightly overclocked (with a maximum of 3.09GHz clock speed) version of the Snapdragon 865 processor which delivers 10% performance boost and 10% faster graphics rendering than the latter one. Hence, the Snapdragon 865+ chipset made it possible to offer 5G connectivity. The 5G handset supports 5G Non-standalone (NSA) and 5G Standalone (SA) as well as Sub6 bands.
Apart from the 5G connectivity and top-end chipset, the smartphone comes in two new colour options — Mystic Bronze and Mystic Gray. However, the hinge is 0.1mm thicker yet it weighs 183g and other dimensions also remain the same.

The Galaxy Z Flip features a 6.7-inch FHD dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex display as the primary display and secondary display comes with a 1.1-inch sAMOLED panel. It runs on Android 10 based OneUI 2.0 that offers an exclusive feature for the Flex mode where it splits an application into two. For eg. When you will open the camera, the viewfinder will be on the upper side and the controls will be beneath.
The 5G folding smartphone comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage instead of 128GB. There is a dual-camera setup on the shell that includes a 12MP primary wide camera with a 78-degree field of view and f/1.8 aperture. And another 12MP ultra-wide lens with 123-degree field of view and OIS for stabilization. Besides, the thick bezel on the top of display houses a 10MP wide camera with 80-degree FoV and f/2.4 aperture. Apart from all these, other specifications of Galaxy Z Flip 5 are the same from 3,300mAh battery, wireless and fast charging support to connectivity and sensors.
Price and Availability
The Galaxy Z Flip 4G model was introduced at $1,380 (approx. Rs. 98,300) and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G is launched for $1,449 (approx. 1,08,500) for the sole 8GB+256GB variant in the US. The smartphone will be sold via Samsung.com, AT&T, T-Mobile, Best Buy and Amazon.com from August 7.
